TIFFINEY SHOQUIST
Eureka
With this crazy summer coming to its grand finale with a 3 week journey to the home state of Montana, I leave you with a glorious news entry. I have had a lot of time on my hands these past couple of months sitting in the sweltering heat and let me tell you, heat is great for creativity, bad for motivation. I made a few things but not as many things as I should have. I wrote a lot of ideas down and have worn paths into the floors from pacing (not to mention a nice large dip in the couch for my lazy ass). I've got big plans for my new project that will be much different from any of my previous work. I have high hopes that it will be an amalgamation of the skills I learned throughout my years of college mixed with the excitement and sincerity of my untainted and naive budding artist self. I also started a new blog (I mean, who doesn't have numerous blogs these days anyway, right?) about my process, progress, and little side ramblings. It will be updated more frequently than this website once fall gets into swing and thus the computer room doesn't turn into a sauna when I turn on the computer. So make sure to check up on it regularly!
Half Way
A lot has been happening in my world of art making, some great, some awful. So here's the skinny:
Went to Iceland, took tons of pictures and had an AMAZING time. Unfortunately, about half of my negatives were damaged/ruined by either a leak in my old minolta, the x-ray scanner at airport security, or a really crap job at the developing shop. I had to step away from them in order to salvage my sanity but plan on trying to fix them up at a later date.

Had a show with a couple artists at The Hallway Gallery in Jamaica Plain, MA. I sold a few pieces and got some really great compliments from a lot of people. After the show I was contacted about a piece a lady wanted to buy from me, very unfortunately the piece (and another that I sent with it) were stolen off the porch where I had sent it. So, two paintings, $700, and the joy of a sale were lost.

Been working on a lot of different things in my cozy little art room, some Montana stuff, some Collage stuff, some random stuff. I've been feeling good about making art and have a lot of ideas to get out. So keep checking in and don't be afraid to send a message to say hello!
Mass Market
This past Sunday I participated in a well known craft/art fair called Mass Market. It was held at Mass Art and it went swimmingly. I hauled about 50 pounds of my art all the way up on the chinatown buses and wound up doing alright. I mostly sold old prints from my days in college, along with a few original drawings and collages (the sold ones will be updated on the page this week). It was inspirational to have so many people compliment me and be excited about my work. I think 2010 will be a productive year.
New city
I have recently relocated my life to Philadelphia, PA. The city is interesting and strange and not like any other place I've lived in, I love it. I almost don't even miss Boston (which isn't too difficult to believe if you've ever lived there). One of the best parts of being here is that I now have an actual studio to myself in my home and I have a lot of free time to work on art. Now I just have to pull myself from the kitchen and drag my butt upstairs to my new lair. I'm searching for some inspiration in this new city but until I find it I'll just keep doin what I do.
Summer
Lots of new news in the way of art, sort of. I've returned from Paris with a plethora of ideas for new pieces, now if only I would put them onto paper! Since I've not been working my joe jobs lately I have plenty of time to be making stuff.

On Sunday, June 14th, I'm participating in the Mass Market held at the Pozen Center in Mass Art. There you can purchase hand sewn beer cozies by yours truly, along with an assortment of original art and some new collages I've been working on over the past couple weeks. There's about a million other vendors there as well, so come check it out!

I'm currently showing my sky/lines series at my place of work, The Hyde. It's located at 5 Fairmount in Hyde Park. It's not an art gallery but there's great food there for pretty cheap and now there's some pretty pictures to look at too!

So that's it for now, check back soon, I'll be posting a few new things in the next week!
Hey, I know that guy!
I have two drawings going up at the Washington Street Art Center. The show is being put on by a couple people who have studios in the building and did a previous show featuring art from over 30 individuals. This is a portraiture show so I decided to do a couple drawings of my friends. They're pretty hilarious and awesome but I don't have a good picture of them. If you'd like to see them, they'll be at WSAC in Somerville on January 16th. There will be food and a couple performances by local bands. It's only up for a couple days so get there quick!
Welcome!
This is my first attempt at a website for my artwork. It is still a work in progress so I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or comments you might have regarding the layout or design. Enjoy, and check back often!
